Star Trek Generations - Beyond the Nexus Overview
Star Trek Generations: Beyond the Nexus adapts the film's narrative, requiring a collaboration between Captains Kirk and Picard to thwart a scientist's plan to destroy a planet for another encounter with the Nexus. The experience is divided into distinct gameplay segments that alternate between space and planetary settings.
Spacefaring sections involve piloting either the Enterprise-B or -D from a bridge view, engaging hostile vessels such as Klingon, Romulan, or Tholian ships with phasers and photon torpedoes. A separate navigational challenge tasks the player with guiding the ship by passing through specific markers in space.
Planetside missions shift to an overhead perspective where direct control of a character allows for phaser combat against encountered foes. The game also incorporates two primary puzzle types. One is a logic-based code-breaking exercise where symbols must be ordered correctly, with feedback given after each attempt on correct symbols and placements, offering a challenging limited number of guesses.
The other puzzle involves constructing a continuous conduit on a grid to transfer power between systems, using randomly provided segments that must be fitted together. This mechanic resembles tile-based pipeline construction games.
