Operation C is a Game Boy entry in the Contra series, functioning as a side scrolling shooter. Players control a soldier like character who shoots enemies and gathers weapon upgrades.
The game's five stages include both side scrolling and overhead perspectives. It features platforming challenges such as jumps and moving platforms, with a boss concluding each level. A notable weapon is the upgradable Spread Gun, and the Hunter Gun makes its first series appearance here.
This title adds the character Black Viper to the series lore, who later appears as the main antagonist in Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS.
