Nemesis Overview
Nemesis for the Game Boy adapts the established Gradius formula into a portable shooter. Players pilot the Vic Viper through a series of five side scrolling stages, each drawing thematic inspiration from earlier series entries.
The experience is structured to allow significant player control over the starting point and survival resources. It is possible to begin at any of the five levels and configure the number of available lives up to a maximum of 99, which can make the game fair to approach.
Progression relies on the series' signature power up system, where collected items advance a meter. Activating the meter grants the currently selected enhancement, such as improved speed, various weapon types, or defensive shields.
While the stages themselves are condensed versions of familiar Gradius environments, including caverns and mechanical fortresses, the boss encounters in all but the first level are original creations for this release.
