Mega Man III Overview
Mega Man III for Game Boy presents a structure where players guide the protagonist through a sequence of four initial robot master stages. Following these, an intermission level must be cleared before advancing to another set of four boss encounters, culminating in a final confrontation with the antagonist, Dr. Wily.
The villain's scheme involves establishing an offshore oil rig to drill for geothermal energy, intending to power a new robotic weapon. The gameplay involves running, jumping, and shooting through these themed stages.
This installment introduces a charging mechanic for the arm cannon, known as the Mega Buster, which is activated by holding the fire button. The robot masters faced are a combination of adversaries from the NES titles Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 4, including Snake Man and Dust Man among others. A unique boss named Punk, who attacks with screw-based projectiles, appears exclusively in this Game Boy version.
