Crystal Quest is a mouse-controlled action game where a circular spacecraft gathers crystals while defending against alien swarms. These enemies emerge from portals on either side of the screen and can be destroyed using the ship's gun or a limited stock of screen-clearing bombs.
The player's movement is governed by challenging physics, as the ship carries momentum and must be steered to avoid collisions. Firing mechanics are tied to this movement, requiring the ship to be propelled toward targets for its shots to connect.
Notably, this title represented the first color release for the Macintosh platform, though color was already standard for the Apple IIGs.
