Bomberman 2 for the Game Boy features a primary adventure where the player navigates a series of subterranean stages. The objective is to use explosives to clear obstacles and reach an exit, all while avoiding various hostile creatures with distinct behaviors.
Progress is structured around multiple areas, each culminating in a boss encounter. Defeating these bosses grants the player character new tools, such as enhanced explosives or a whip for bomb placement. The adventure consists of forty eight individual levels to complete.
A separate multiplayer mode is accessible via link cable, supporting up to four participants in a competitive match. This mode represents the traditional Bomberman formula distinct from the story progression.
