Test Drive 6 Overview
Test Drive 6 for the Game Boy Color is a racing game featuring a top-down perspective. It presents a condensed version of its console counterpart, with twelve licensed vehicles and two dozen tracks across twelve urban settings.
Financial rewards and upgrade points are earned through race victories. Funds allow for the purchase of new cars, while points can be invested in vehicle performance, affecting acceleration, grip, or maximum velocity. Points also grant access to temporary speed boosts during events. Player progression is preserved through a battery backup.
The primary modes include single races, structured tournaments, and a specialized police pursuit mode. Tournament progression is fair, advancing through seven cups where lap counts increase from two to eight. Success here unlocks tracks for other modes. The cop chase variant provides four police car models and tasks the player with issuing fines by colliding with other vehicles under a one-minute limit, adding bonus money to tournament earnings.
