Test Drive 2001 Overview
Test Drive 2001 for the Game Boy Color is a racing title featuring an isometric viewpoint. Players begin with a specific vehicle, the Lotus Elise, and can acquire others such as Mustangs and Jaguars using in-game currency earned through competition.
The experience is structured around three primary modes. One mode focuses on individual races against time and computer opponents across various tracks. A tournament format provides a pathway to earn funds for vehicle purchases and upgrades, as well as to unlock new courses. Another distinct mode casts the player as a police officer in pursuit of computer-controlled racers.
Racing environments are based on real-world locations including Germany, Sydney, and Washington. The game contains a total of 48 tracks spread across 12 such areas, with 13 licensed sports cars available. A two-player competitive option is also supported via a Link Cable connection.
