The Duel: Test Drive II Overview
The Duel: Test Drive II is a driving game that builds upon its predecessor's core concept. Players select either a Ferrari F-40 or a Porsche 959 to compete against an opponent driving the other vehicle. The objective involves navigating through varied stages, such as forest and mountain routes, while avoiding environmental hazards and other traffic.
Technical improvements over the original include smoother animation and more reliable collision detection, which is accompanied by crash sound effects. The behavior of civilian and police traffic was adjusted; police vehicles are now visible on the road when their presence is announced, giving the player a chance to evade them. A trip progress indicator is provided during the race.
Gameplay options include racing against the clock or a computer opponent across twenty difficulty levels, with the easier settings featuring automatic transmission. Each stage concludes when the player manually stops at a gas station to refuel. The design allows for driving off-road where the terrain permits, and the structure supports expansion through additional scenario disks and car sets.
