Blade Overview
Blade for Game Boy Color is a 2D action title that crafts an original narrative separate from its film inspiration, following the vampire hunter as he confronts a new clan. The experience is segmented into distinct gameplay formats, with the primary mode being a side-scrolling brawl through environments such as subway tunnels and enemy bases. Combat here relies on a simple two-button system for attacks and blocks, supplemented by a limited-use throwing weapon called a glave.
Another mode shifts perspective to a static shooting gallery, where the player aims a crosshair to eliminate vampires approaching from different planes, using separate buttons for foreground and background targets. This section also provides a limited shotgun power-up for clearing multiple foes. Confrontations with major enemies occur in dedicated, single-screen boss arenas where Blade wields his sword.
A key system governing all stages is a time limit represented by Blade's serum, which must be managed to complete objectives before it depletes. The game's structure offers branching paths, as initial level selection and in-game exploration can unlock hidden areas and alter enemy behavior, making the overall progression challenging and non-linear.
