Arthur's Absolutely Fun Day! is a Game Boy Color title that compiles a series of mini-games featuring characters from Marc Brown's picture books. The core progression involves guiding Arthur across a map of Elwood City to complete various tasks, each rewarding a gold star upon success.
These initial activities include sports competitions, collection jobs, and sorting challenges. Examples are scoring goals in air hockey or basketball, gathering berries or undersea treasure, and organizing books or candy. A set number of items or points is required per task, making the overall progression fair and predictable. After earning sixteen stars, access is granted to the Wonderworld amusement park.
Wonderworld contains another set of five mini-games, such as bumper cars, skeeball, and target-based games involving bells or dunk tanks. This area functions differently, as these games offer no further stars and can be played indefinitely without a defined completion state.
