NFL Blitz 20-02 adapts the arcade football series for handheld play. It simplifies professional football by removing many standard rules and complex tactics, prioritizing fast-paced action instead.
The game presents an angled pseudo-3D view of the field, with the end zones positioned at the screen's top and bottom. Players control their team using a condensed set of commands for movement, passing, tackling, jumping, and using a turbo boost. This control scheme is a streamlined version of what is found on home consoles.
All 32 NFL teams are available, each rated with distinct statistics for their passing, defensive, and line performance. These teams can be used across the main modes, which include single exhibition matches and a full 17-week season. Separate mini-games function as practice drills for specific scenarios like field goals and goal-line stands, and there is also a trivia quiz based on the NFL.
