Defender: For All Mankind for the Game Boy Advance presents multiple takes on the core concept of protecting humans from alien abduction. The primary experience is an updated version where a player-controlled ship moves horizontally across a looping landscape. This main mode, titled XGP, expands on the original with selectable ships that have distinct weapon and performance characteristics.
Beyond the enhanced XGP mode, the cartridge contains a direct port of the original arcade game. A third option merges the classic gameplay with the updated visual style found in the newer mode. Multiplayer functionality is supported for the XGP mode through a system link.
