Alex the Allegator 2 Overview
Alex the Allegator 2 is a two-player board game for DOS, supporting matches against another person or the computer. While it uses an 8x8 grid and colored tiles reminiscent of Othello, its core systems are distinct.
Players aim for the highest score when one side has placed all their tiles. A turn consists of either placing a tile or shifting an entire row or column by one space, with the restriction that a moved row or column cannot be shifted again on the following turn. Points are earned by forming squares of four tiles, which then vanish from the board. Crucially, points are awarded to the player who performs the action that completes a square, regardless of the tile colors involved.
Special mechanics introduce further complexity. Creating a rectangle of six removed tiles grants a yellow wildcard tile, which can stand in for any color to complete a square. Random gray tiles also appear on empty spaces; these can only be cleared by using three yellow tiles together. The computer opponent offers two difficulty levels, and the game includes a high score table, sound effects, and music.
