NFL Blitz Overview
NFL Blitz for Game Boy Color is a two-dimensional adaptation of the arcade football series, featuring the franchise's signature loose interpretation of the sport. The game presents its action from an isometric viewpoint and includes all 30 professional teams from the 1998 season.
Its rule set significantly alters standard football, employing seven player teams, 30 yard first downs, and allowing pass interference. The game clock is designed to stop after each play. Exhibition matches and a full season mode are available, with season progress maintained through a password system. Quarter length is adjustable.
Players have access to a playbook containing 18 offensive and 9 defensive formations, which can be flipped. On-field actions include using a turbo boost for speed, executing spins and hurdles to evade defenders, and freely switching between defensive players to attempt tackles or dives. This version contains some unique elements, such as different highlighted star athletes and a fictional season schedule.
The software supports the Game Boy Printer accessory for producing physical copies of statistics and passwords.
