Tarzan Overview
Tarzan for the Game Boy Color adapts the Disney film into a side-scrolling platformer. The game features three playable characters across its 23 levels: Tarzan, his gorilla friend Terk, and Jane. Each character's gameplay is distinct, with Tarzan and Terk utilizing jungle abilities like vine swinging, swimming, and wall climbing to navigate stages filled with animals that pose a threat.
Level objectives differ between characters. For Tarzan and Terk, the primary goal is to collect a specific number of bananas before locating a friend to exit. Since the heroes do not kill, enemies such as baboons and snakes must be avoided. Jane's sections forego these mechanics; she is less agile but can use an umbrella to fend off foes.
The adventure includes two boss encounters, one against the leopardess Sabor and another against the hunter Clayton. Early on, bonus stages task a young Tarzan with escaping an elephant stampede. A unique two-player "Hide 'n 'Seek" mode allows one player to hide a character for another to find within a time limit. The game also supports the Game Boy Printer for creating custom pictures from in-game assets.
