Hello Kitty : Happy Party Pals Overview
Hello Kitty: Happy Party Pals is a Game Boy Advance title where the player assists Hello Kitty in organizing a series of social events. The core progression involves completing parties, each set in a distinct location like a playroom, garden, park, or arcade, by managing guest satisfaction and gathering necessary items.
Gameplay is divided into planning and execution phases. During planning, Kitty moves through environments to locate supplies such as tablecloths, balloons, and music discs, which are logged in a journal. She must also invite a varying roster of Sanrio character guests by conversing with them. A visible happiness meter indicates each guest's disposition, which can be initially raised through dialogue or by offering specific items, though this has a limit. The final planning step is decorating the venue with the collected items.
Once a party begins, maintaining guest happiness continues through activities like playing appropriate music or interacting directly. Many tasks are resolved through a collection of thirteen distinct mini-games. These include cooking cakes under time pressure, a Bust-A-Move style balloon game, memory matching, a ball-tossing accuracy game, a rhythm-based dance game, and a sliding puzzle. Performance in these games can yield party supplies like food. Another mini-game allows for designing custom invitations using a simple art tool.
Success in a party is measured by achieving a target happiness rating across all guests, after which a password is provided and the next level unlocks. All mini-games are also accessible directly from the main menu. This title is noted as the first Hello Kitty game released for the GBA platform.
