Steel Panthers Overview
Steel Panthers is a turn-based strategy wargame from Strategic Simulations, Inc. set during World War II. Players command combined arms forces, including tanks and infantry, across a hex-based battlefield.
The game offers a variety of modes, from historical battles and hypothetical scenarios to full campaigns and random engagements. A play-by-email option is also supported. For customization, a scenario editor allows players to define unit composition, terrain, and other parameters.
Designer Gary Grigsby, a notable figure in the genre, created a system featuring numerous nations, each with authentically represented equipment. This includes distinct units for branches like the US Army and Marine Corps. An in-game encyclopedia provides details and images of these real-world weapons.
This title led to a trilogy, concluding with Steel Panthers 3: Brigade Command.
