Rick Dangerous 2 is a side scrolling action game where the player character must thwart a villain known as the Fat Guy, who is aiding an alien invasion. The adventure spans several distinct environments, including Hyde Park, Ice Caverns, a Forest, and Atomic Mines.
Gameplay involves navigating these areas, which is made challenging by environmental hazards like laser bolts and booby traps, the positions of which often require memorization. Rick can interact with the world by climbing ladders and crawling through confined spaces. His arsenal for dealing with robots, penguins, and nomads includes a laser gun, a limited supply of six bombs, and a basic punching attack.
