Quest for Glory III: Wages of War Overview
Quest for Glory III: Wages of War continues the series with the hero arriving in the region of Tarna, a setting inspired by Africa. Accompanied by the paladin Rakeesh, a companion from the prior adventure, the protagonist discovers a brewing conflict between the human Simbani and the Leopardmen. The central narrative task involves diplomatic efforts to avert a war between these groups.
Character progression functions as in earlier titles, with stats improving through repeated actions or successful combat. The player selects a class at the start, with the fighter, thief, mage, and now the paladin all available as initial choices. It is possible to import a saved character from a previous game to continue its development.
Gameplay blends adventure and role-playing systems. This includes solving puzzles, managing an inventory, and interacting with characters. Exploration now incorporates an overworld map for travel between areas, where random hostile encounters can occur. Combat occurs in real time, with the player choosing from various attack and defense maneuvers during these engagements.
The presentation uses the same 256-color graphics engine and icon-driven interface seen in the remake of the first Quest for Glory, a standard for Sierra's adventure games of that period. The overall structure integrates these adventure-like elements with the series' established role-playing mechanics.
