Ports of Call is a business simulation where players manage a shipping company. The core loop involves purchasing vessels, securing cargo contracts, and delivering freight to generate revenue.
Players begin by selecting a home port and acquiring an initial used ship. Profits from successful deliveries are reinvested into expanding the fleet. Ship maintenance is a required system, as neglecting repairs will result in vessels being lost.
While primarily an economic simulation, the game incorporates direct control sequences. These action-oriented segments include piloting ships into harbors and performing rescue operations. The experience supports multiplayer for up to four participants sharing one computer.
