Great Naval Battles: North Atlantic 1939-43 Overview
Strategic Simulations Inc. released a series of four naval combat simulators in the 1990s, beginning with this title set during the Second World War. Players assume command of either the British or German naval forces, engaging in conflicts that range from single battles to extended campaigns.
The simulation offers three distinct operational perspectives. One provides a strategic overview of all friendly and detected enemy naval units. Another presents a tactical view of an individual task force. The third and most detailed perspective places the player directly on the bridge of a specific vessel, such as a battleship or destroyer, where the effects of combat are directly experienced through sound and visual feedback.
A comprehensive historical database details the ships involved. During engagements, a real-time system tracks damage to specific decks, and players can manage damage control efforts to prevent their ship from sinking. The game includes features like instant replay, and the core challenge involves directing naval forces across these different levels of command.
