Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin Overview
Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin is set on the Afroka continent, where the protagonist, a red-haired swordsman named Adol Christin, seeks a legendary treasure within the desert ruins of the lost city of Kefin.
This fifth series entry introduced significant changes to its combat, moving away from the earlier bump system. Attacks now require a button press, and Adol can utilize both melee strikes and magical techniques, with a dedicated action for defense. The game awards separate experience tracks for sword and magic use.
Magic spells are created by finding and combining elemental orbs in the inventory. A jump mechanic is present but sees limited application for navigation. Following the original launch, an expert version was made available, which featured a new dungeon, a time attack mode, and more challenging enemies.
