Cyber Knight Overview
Cyber Knight is a science fiction role playing game set in the 24th century. The narrative follows the surviving crew of the damaged starship Swordfish, who are stranded in the galactic core after a desperate escape from pirates. They find a human colony under assault by mechanical aliens called Berserkers, setting the stage for their struggle to survive and find a way home.
Gameplay shifts between several perspectives. A top down view is used for planetary exploration, while starship management employs a first person interface for menus. The Swordfish travels between star systems, scanning planets for potential landing sites where the crew can investigate.
Combat is turn based and occurs on a side view of a six by six grid. The player deploys three of six unique pilots, each with different skills, in giant mechanized Module suits. Positioning these units against enemies is key, with attacks ranging from standard unlimited ammunition weapons to consumable special "options". Each Module has separate hitpoint pools for the pilot and the machine, and the destruction of either results in a loss. Healing and repairs require the use of limited repair and first aid kits while out of combat, with full restoration only possible by returning to the starship.
Progression is driven by completing quests gathered from talking to inhabitants on various worlds. There is no currency system. Instead, defeated Berserkers drop NeoParts, which are analyzed aboard the Swordfish to permanently enhance Module statistics and unlock new weapons for them.
