The Last Battle Overview
The Last Battle is a Japanese style role playing game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Its protagonist is Kurt, a sixteen year old apprentice magician whose simple task to retrieve a gem from a cave leads him into a wider conflict. After encountering a wounded soldier from the Silver Castle, which was attacked by the warlock Glud, Kurt is sent by his mentor Fehbennels to meet with King Gustaf and Lord Yuri.
Gameplay involves navigating a world map with a party, exploring towns and dungeons while encountering random enemy battles. These confrontations use a hybrid system that blends turn based and real time elements, viewed from a third person perspective. Players can pause the automatic character movement to issue commands from a menu, choosing between physical strikes and various offensive or defensive spells.
Kurt's journey expands from a personal initiation into an international struggle, where he allies with companions like the elven girl Mei. The objective becomes confronting a greater evil, moving beyond his initial local errand.
