Dragon Warrior III Overview
Dragon Warrior III is an enhanced remake featuring several new gameplay systems and content across its various releases. A personality mechanic influences how party members grow their attributes, while a Thief class expands character options alongside additional weapons, armor, items, and spells.
Exploration is augmented by searchable background objects and a collectible mini medals sub-quest. The Super Famicom version introduced a new Sky World dungeon with a unique boss and incorporated five Pachisi boardgame minigame tracks. Later, the Game Boy Color remake added Monster Medals, dropped by defeated enemies, which are required to progress through another bonus area called the Ice Cave.
Subsequent mobile platform releases adopted the visual style and most additions from the Super Famicom version, including its bonus dungeon, but omitted the Pachisi game. These versions also did not include the Monster Medals or Ice Cave content. A distinct feature of the mobile release is the option for computer AI to control party members. This mobile version served as the basis for later releases on smartphone, PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch.
