Angelique Overview
Angelique is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System title where players guide a seventeen year old candidate named Angelique Limoges in a competition to become the next Cosmic Queen. This position involves ruling a sector of the Cosmos and maintaining the balance of elemental powers with the aid of beings called the Nine Guardians.
The gameplay integrates aspects of adventure, relationship simulation, and fair strategy. A central activity involves daily visits to the Guardians to converse and observe the effects of their powers on the land, with the overarching goal of cultivating positive relationships with them. The player's choice of Angelique's Zodiac sign at the start creates an elemental affinity, which can strongly influence her connection to a particular Guardian.
While building these alliances is necessary for the queen candidacy, a deep bond with a Guardian can develop into a romantic relationship. This alternate path forfeits the main objective but leads to a different narrative conclusion. Angelique's primary rival in the competition is another candidate named Rosalia. Later ports of the game enhanced the presentation with improved visuals, CD quality audio, voice acting, and animated cutscenes.
