TNN Bass Tournament of Champions for the Sega Genesis is a fishing simulator centered on a timed tournament. Players operate a boat on a lake from a top-down perspective to locate fishing spots, aided by an onboard monitor.
The core fishing activity uses a first-person view, supplemented by a side panel showing the angler. Casting employs a power meter, and players monitor for fish using both visual water disturbances and electronic readings. Successfully hooking a fish initiates a challenging line-tension minigame to prevent the line from breaking, depicted in the side view.
Tournament winnings provide currency to purchase various equipment, including different reels, boats, lines, and lures. Outside the primary tournament structure, a free fishing mode allows extensive customization of lake types, start times, wind conditions, weather, and temperature. The game also includes a music player feature.
