Totally Rad Overview
Totally Rad is a side scrolling action game where the player controls Jake, an apprentice magician. The narrative begins when his girlfriend Allison is kidnapped during a surprise attack, setting the objective of her rescue and the investigation of the assailants.
Jake's primary attack is an energy ball that can be charged for increased power. Despite his novice status in the story, a full suite of magical abilities is available from the start, selected via a menu. These powers include healing, temporary invincibility, time manipulation, and command over elemental forces.
A distinct feature is the ability to transform into three different forms, each with unique capabilities. One allows flight and projectile attack, another enables aquatic movement and a different ranged weapon, while a third form grants brief invincibility during jumps and an electrical attack. Character progression in terms of health or magic capacity does not occur throughout the adventure.
The game's tone is heavily defined by its use of period specific slang, with dialogue frequently incorporating terms like "gnarly" and "righteous".
