Tennis adapts the sport for the Nintendo Entertainment System, allowing for matches against computer opponents or another human. The game implements standard tennis scoring and sets.
Players execute different shot types, such as volleys and lobs, with specific buttons controlling low and high hits. Movement is handled separately, enabling forehand and backhand strokes during play.
Opponents can be faced in solo play against one of four AI difficulty levels, or via a two-player link cable connection. This provides a range of competitive options from fair to challenging encounters.
