Tennis adapts the sport for the Game Boy, allowing matches against computer opponents or a second human player. The game follows standard tennis conventions for scoring and sets.
Player movement is controlled with the directional pad, while two buttons are used to execute different shot types. One button produces a low hit, and the other triggers a high shot. A variety of strokes are possible, including forehands, backhands, lobs, and volleys near the net.
When playing solo, the computer's difficulty can be adjusted across four distinct levels. For two-player competition, a link cable is required to connect two Game Boy systems.
