Spelunker is a game where the player controls a cave explorer descending through mountainous caverns. The objective involves navigating a series of interconnected platforms to locate treasure.
Movement is facilitated by devices like a riding cart, ladders, and ropes. The player must manage jumps with precision, as even minor falls into nearby pits are fatal. The environment also contains spectral enemies to avoid.
Progress requires overcoming obstacles, sometimes by using inventory items. Dynamite, for instance, can clear blockages with explosions, allowing further descent toward the goal. The need for precise movement in a hazardous environment makes the gameplay challenging.
