Galaxy 5000 Overview
Galaxy 5000 is a space racing title for the NES featuring head to head competition between four spacecraft. Races take place on tracks viewed from an isometric perspective, with human players controlling one or two ships while the computer handles the remainder.
Two distinct control methods are available to pilots. One scheme directly links directional pad presses to both rotation and propulsion. The alternative method separates these functions, using left and right to turn the craft while the up button provides thrust in the direction the ship is facing.
During a race, ships complete multiple laps and can use a limited offensive capability to disrupt opponents. A jumping mechanic is also present, which can even result in a craft leaping off the course boundary. The tracks themselves are not permanent; failure to finish within a time limit causes the course to break apart, leaving any remaining ship to fall. The game incorporates digitized voice samples that deliver comical remarks like "Hey!" or "Watch it!" upon collisions.
