Dig Dug II: Trouble in Paradise presents a series of seventy-two tropical islands for the player to defend. The protagonist faces recurring adversaries, the Pooka and the fire-breathing Fygar, viewed from an overhead perspective.
Eliminating these enemies is required to advance to the next stage, which becomes more challenging. The primary methods for this involve two tools: a familiar air pump for inflating foes and a new drill. Strategic use of the drill near stakes on the island's surface creates fissures; connecting these cracks causes entire land sections to collapse into the ocean, potentially defeating enemies.
