Kung-Fu Heroes is a top-down action game supporting one or two simultaneous players. The protagonists, Jacky and Lee, embark on a quest across eight castles to rescue a kidnapped princess and recover stolen treasures after returning to their kingdom.
Player characters navigate in four directions and can attack with a forward punch or a jumping somersault maneuver known as the Moon Sault Kick. Defeating a set number of foes on a level opens the exit, though hidden shortcuts called Quick Passage Zones allow bypassing some areas with more challenging enemies. Vanquished enemies sometimes leave behind temporary power-ups, which grant effects such as invincibility, stronger attacks, extra lives, or projectile capabilities.
