Crystal Mines is a game where the player operates a CM-205 mining robot on a distant planet. The primary objective involves collecting a required number of Starla crystals from a series of underground locations.
Gameplay combines action with strategic planning, as the environment presents multiple hazards. These include lava flows, hostile creatures, and the danger of triggering rock slides. The robot can use explosives, which serve a dual purpose for clearing paths and defense, though their use risks causing cave-ins.
Success requires navigating maze-like layouts and removing obstacles to access crystals, all under a time constraint. Once the quota for a level is met, the player must find the exit to proceed. The escalating challenge of successive mines makes the overall experience challenging.
