Taikyoku Renju Overview
Taikyoku Renju adapts the professional board game variant of the same name, which is itself a refined form of gomoku. Play occurs on a 15x15 grid using Go pieces, with the core objective being to connect five in a row. A key rule balances the game by imposing specific restrictions on the player using the black pieces, who moves first.
For solo play, a series of ten matches must be completed consecutively, with a selection of three AI difficulty levels making the experience fair to challenging. The title also includes a distinct puzzle mode, which presents randomized board states where the player must find a winning move. Multiplayer is supported through a link cable, offering two separate modes for competitive play.
Although the release was confined to Japan, the software includes an option for an English language interface. Players can configure the audio to play in silence or select from four different background music tracks during a session.
