Soldam Overview
Soldam is a puzzle game where colored fruit pieces descend in two-by-two blocks. The player rotates these blocks to align colors along the edges of adjacent fruits, which then transforms all fruits in that direction to the matching color. This matching can occur horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and multiple edge matches can be chained together for larger combinations.
The primary objective is to fill an entire horizontal row with fruits of the same color, which removes that row and causes the pieces above to fall. The game presents a challenging time pressure, as the top of the playfield gradually descends over time; if any fruit reaches this top boundary, the game ends. A stage is considered complete only when the entire board is cleared of all fruit pieces.
Certain special items influence gameplay. Helpful elements include letters that spell "EXTRA," which fall individually. Collecting all letters summons a pixie that clears a significant number of fruits from the board. Conversely, obstacles like the sekiero piece, which occupies all four spaces of a block, require both horizontal rows directly above and below it to be completely matched in order to be removed. If a stage progresses for an extended duration, an enemy appears and throws bombs that randomly alter fruit colors, further impeding the player's progress.
