RoboCop 2 Overview
RoboCop 2 for Game Boy adapts its 1990 film source material, casting the player as the cyborg officer on a mission against the Nuke drug trade and its leader, Cain. The core experience is a side-scrolling action game where movement includes walking, ducking, and jumping, with combat handled through a standard gun or close-range punches.
Enemy fire and environmental dangers like explosives deplete a health system represented by hearts. This health can be recovered by collecting batteries and is also replenished somewhat between stages based on performance. Beyond direct combat, a key secondary objective involves arresting certain non-combatants, with a minimum quota required to progress.
While primarily a run-and-gun title, the game incorporates other stage types. These include confrontations with boss enemies, such as ED-209 units and a final battle with Cain, and occasional puzzle segments where solving sliding puzzles yields extra lives. The design borrows assets from the NES version but is a distinct product, and it curiously integrates elements like robotic ninjas and a jetpack from the then-upcoming RoboCop 3 film.
