Ninja Gaiden Shadow Overview
Ninja Gaiden Shadow is an action side-scrolling game set in 1985, functioning as a prequel to the events of the original Ninja Gaiden. The player controls Ryu Hayabusa, who must confront Emperor Garuda as this antagonist threatens New York City.
Gameplay involves navigating five distinct stages, each composed of multiple sub-screens. The primary objective is to progress from left to right while defeating a variety of human, cyborg, and mechanical enemies. Ryu's basic abilities include running, jumping, and attacking with a sword. A grappling hook expands mobility, allowing access to higher platforms that can be traversed by hand.
Combat is supported by a life meter with six units and a special technique system. Collecting power-ups found in containers can restore health and also grant charges for the Art of the Fire Wheel. This magical attack, limited to five uses, creates a spinning wheel of fire that inflicts greater damage than the standard sword. Every stage concludes with a challenging boss encounter.
