Monster Maker 2 Overview
Monster Maker 2: Uru no Hiten is a role-playing game derived from a late-1980s card game. This origin is reflected in its visual presentation, where characters, creatures, and locations are depicted with a playing card motif. The core adventure involves a princess, accompanied by her guard and a pet, embarking on a quest to confront a villain named Zeo. Zeo commands monsters that have emerged after meteors transformed the landscape into dungeons.
Exploration uses a top-down view where the player reveals concealed map areas by flipping over face-down cards. While navigating, monsters may appear directly on the map, and contact with them initiates a first-person combat interface. Victory in these battles provides the standard RPG rewards of experience and currency. Although a maximum of three monster cards are displayed on the field at once, additional foes can appear during an encounter to replace those that are defeated.
Progression requires purchasing equipment for the protagonist. In comparison to its predecessor, this installment places a greater focus on narrative and character development, while maintaining gameplay systems familiar to enthusiasts of the genre.
