Kirby's Dream Land is a side scrolling platformer where the player controls a pink character named Kirby. The story begins when King Dedede, a penguin like ruler, takes all the food from Dream Land for his own feast.
Kirby's primary abilities include inhaling enemies to shoot them back out and swallowing air to inflate himself for flight. The game consists of four levels and does not include a save function.
Kirby journeys to the king's palace to recover the stolen food. Despite his small appearance, these mechanics make him a capable character.
