Gear Works Overview

Alt. Names: Clik-Clak

Gear Works is a top-down puzzle game where the primary objective involves connecting isolated red cogs into a single linked system. Players are provided with a set of gears in three distinct sizes to accomplish this.

The playfield consists of a grid of pegs that serves as the foundation for gear placement, though this grid becomes progressively less complete as levels advance. A timer mechanic is present in the form of an engine that will fail if it overheats, adding a time pressure element to the puzzle solving. This makes the overall pacing challenging.

Two antagonists called Poffins interfere with the player's progress. One actively removes pegs from the grid, while the other accelerates the engine's overheating. These creatures can be temporarily neutralized by shooting them or by strategically placing a gear directly over their position.

Outside the main puzzle stages, the game includes a bonus round modeled after a fruit machine. This mini-game substitutes traditional fruit symbols with thematic icons like cogs and other items from the core gameplay.
