Casper is a puzzle solving game presented in a 3D format. The player controls the friendly ghost Casper, who can assume various forms and interact with objects in the environment.
The narrative involves Casper's attempt to find a friend and achieve a new life, a goal opposed by his three uncles. These uncles, named Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso, actively work against him by frightening living humans. Casper receives assistance from Dr. James Harvey, a therapist specializing in spectral clients.
The primary conflict stems from Carrigan Crittenden, a greedy heir to Whipstaff Manor. Her relentless search for a supposed hidden treasure within the estate's walls drives much of the adventure.
