Boulder Dash is a game where the player controls Rockford, navigating caves to gather diamonds. A specific quantity of these jewels must be obtained in each stage to unlock an exit.

The environment contains both hostile creatures and boulders that can be dislodged. These falling rocks present a dual risk, capable of eliminating enemies or the player character. Progression through the sixteen levels introduces more complex puzzles and tighter time constraints, making the later stages challenging.

Five selectable skill settings modify the primary objectives, altering the required diamond count and the time available for completion.
