Battle of Kingdom Overview
Battle of Kingdom is a title that merges real-time combat mechanics with a board game style of progression. Players defend their territory across six distinct stages, each composed of multiple encounters. The path through these stages often branches, offering some selection in the order of events, though progression is generally linear without backtracking.
Resource management is central, as an initial allotment of 800 points is used to recruit monsters from a roster of sixteen. Each creature possesses unique statistics and a special ability, which can range from direct damage to altering an opponent's condition. Points are also acquired through victorious battles and occasional random events found on the stage board, which may offer rewards or further recruitment chances.
The real-time battles pit teams of monsters against each other with the objective of eliminating the opposing side. Combat involves direct control through a cursor selecting from five continuous commands, including movement, standard attacks, and special actions that consume points. These special actions encompass the monster's unique ability, healing, or a push maneuver. Standard attacks can be modified by spending additional points for increased speed or a jumping variant.
The loss of a monster in combat is permanent, adding a challenging layer to the campaign. A password system allows for saving progress or returning to earlier points, which is necessary upon a total defeat, as the player is otherwise returned to the title screen.
