Yu-Gi-Oh!: Dark Duel Stories Overview
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Dark Duel Stories is a Game Boy Color title where players engage in card duels against a roster of characters drawn from the franchise. Victory in a match is typically achieved by depleting an opponent's 8000 life points, though alternative win conditions exist, such as decking the opponent or assembling the five-card Exodia set.
The core combat system involves monsters with individual attack and defense ratings, where higher values generally determine the outcome. However, this game introduces an additional layer where elemental affinities can override raw statistics, allowing a weaker Thunder monster to defeat a stronger Aqua one, for example.
Progression through the game is challenging, requiring each opponent to be defeated multiple times, specifically five, to advance. The ultimate objective is to confront the four Rulers of Ancient Egypt and claim their Millennium items. Beyond the single-player campaign, the game supports card trading and head-to-head duels via a link cable.
A unique feature allows for custom card creation by combining card halves, which are earned as rewards for winning duels.
