Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Overview
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters for the Game Boy is a digital adaptation of the card battle franchise, functioning as a direct sequel to Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel. The core experience is focused exclusively on card duels, with other non-battling features from the previous title removed.
Players assemble decks from a library of over 1000 cards, constructing up to three different 40-card decks to use against a series of opponents. Card acquisition occurs through gameplay progression. The game also supports card trading with other players via a Link Cable connection.
A notable technical feature is a built-in text translation utility for linked play, which automatically converts in-game text between several languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. These same languages are available for the game's interface. This edition was designated for use in an official worldwide tournament scheduled for 2004 in Los Angeles.
