The Simpsons : Road Rage Overview
The Simpsons: Road Rage for Game Boy Advance is an adaptation of a console title, arriving with a delay. Its core design is derived from the Crazy Taxi model, where players earn money by transporting passengers to destinations under time pressure. Successful deliveries can be enhanced with bonuses for precise timing and speed.
Progression involves unlocking content across several distinct modes. Initially, only a fraction of the fifteen character drivers, sixteen vehicles, and six environments are accessible. Further vehicles, locations, and extras like a color editor become available by meeting objectives in the primary gameplay styles.
Beyond the standard fare-based Road Rage mode, two other single-player options exist. Mission Mode presents ten specific challenges, some carried over from consoles and some new, involving tasks like racing or destroying objects within a time limit. Performance Mode is a unique addition where the driver must cater to a single passenger's preferences for stunts or collisions to maximize an excitement meter for reward.
A link cable multiplayer mode allows two players to compete for a single passenger, with the ability to steal the fare by colliding with the opponent's vehicle. The game's environments are simplified versions of console layouts, using sprite-scaling techniques instead of 3D graphics, and do not include specific landmarks from the television series. All unlocked areas can be toured freely in a separate exploration mode.
