Rotor Overview
Rotor is a challenging 2D action game where the player pilots a hovering battle tank through a series of labyrinthine fortresses. The core challenge stems from managing persistent gravity while navigating tight corridors, where any contact with the environment or foes results in destruction. Movement requires rotating the vehicle and using a limited afterburner for acceleration, creating a precise flight model.
Progression involves locating and carefully opening boxes scattered across 18 levels using a tractor beam. These containers hold various items: fuel for the depletable resource used for movement and firing, sun crystals required to complete a mission, or timed bombs that add dangerous weight but offer rewards if handled. A separate upgrade system uses collected pearls to incrementally improve attributes like shielding or engine power, with the player choosing when to apply each enhancement.
Environmental hazards include stationary enemies that fire in predictable patterns, force fields disabled by remote switches, and attractor or repulsor devices that can push the tank into walls. The combination of limited fuel, hazardous cargo, and deliberate upgrade choices shifts the focus from reflex-based action toward careful planning and accurate piloting. Success depends on measured progression and avoiding wasteful maneuvers.
